AUBURN – Willie G. Davidson, vice president of styling at Harley-Davidson and grandson of one of the company’s founders, has chosen to sign the gas tank on a 2006 Harley-Davidson 35th Anniversary Super Glide motorcycle to benefit the WWII Victory Museum in Auburn.
Davidson designed the original Harley-Davidson Super Glide in 1971, as well as this 35th anniversary model.
“This is such a rare opportunity for our museum. Mr. Davidson hardly ever gives autographs and we greatly appreciate his support,” said Bob Krafft, the museum’s executive director.
Davidson did not sign a Harley, promoted by Jay Leno and bearing the signatures of dozens of top celebrities, which was auctioned for $1 million to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
River City Harley-Davidson of New Haven acquired the motorcycle for the raffle to benefit the WWII Victory Museum.
Harley-Davidson is only producing 3500 of these motorcycles, and this one is the only one expected to be signed.
The motorcycle is powered by a 1450 cc Twin Cam 88 engine. The cycle features 6-speed Cruise Drive gearbox, chrome and silver powertrain, Fat Bob fuel tank, unique 35th Anniversary medallions and decals, leather fuel tank console, serialization on the battery cover, and #1 logo on fuel tank.
Tickets for the raffle are $10 each or 3 for $25 and are available at the WWII Victory Museum and River City Harley-Davidson. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn September 30, at the museum before the River City Harley-Davidson 2007 Model Open House.
Tickets can only be purchased by those older than 18 years of age.
The winning ticket holder need not be present at the War Memorial Ride to win.
The World War II Victory Museum is home to a line of WWII-era Harley-Davidson motorcycles including a 1942 Harley-Davidson WLA, a 1942 Harley-Davidson 42XA, a 1942 Harley-Davidson UA and a 1943 Harley-Davidson WLC. There are more than 25 other motorcycles from around the world at the museum as well.
The museum is located off of I-69 at C.R. 11A, three miles south of Auburn, Indiana, and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. More information on the museum is available online at www.wwiivictory.org or by phone at 927-9144.
